The opening ceremony of International games conference in Ottawa, the Entertainment Software Association Of Canada (ESAC) president and CEO Jayson Hilchie revealed some game development industry data of the country. Which including the World of Warcraft influence on the entire Canadian economic growth.
According to the ESAC data, the wow gold bring about $3.2 million revenue for Canadian gross national product (GDP). Although to some Canadian game studio, there are situation of the layoffs and studio closed, but as for World of Warcraft, the game industry workers still in growth.
“ In Canada, there are in total 16500 people who for the game industry,” said Hilchie, “ as for the statistical data last year (2012), it increased by 5% at least. The game industry brought nearly 27000 jobs for Canadian economy. And World of Warcraft alone brought about 4500 jobs. These are high income jobs, an average of more than $72000 annual salary, mainly engaged in the creative/artistic, technical and business/management young labor force.”
ESAC data also show the games industry shift in the country. According to the data, 84% of Canadian studios currently engaged in the mobile equipment games research and development. PC gaming is the second largest platform, 66% of the developers support, followed by the host (48%) and web browser (46%), and social networking (29%).
In fact, the influence of the World of Warcraft is obvious. What World of Warcraft bring to Canada is not only jobs, but also chance. Under the influence of the game, more and more online game development company want to show their capabilities at Canada, the success of World of Warcraft is just a beginning. Sure that more and more new games will play an important role in Canada GDP. It’s an opportunity for the whole country.
